Nofollow

A link attribute telling search engines not to pass authority.

Definition

An HTML attribute (rel="nofollow") added to a hyperlink to instruct search engines not to pass link authority to the destination page. In 2019, Google made nofollow a hint rather than a directive, meaning they may choose to follow such links anyway.

Why It Matters for SEO

Understanding nofollow is essential for any effective SEO strategy. Without grasping this concept, it is difficult to make informed decisions about how to improve your website's search visibility and organic traffic.
